Q: “Do you have to know all about politics and government?”

A: Absolutely not. Of course being knowledgeable about what's going on in the world is always a good thing, but it's not a prerequisite for Y&G. Throughout the program you will end up learning more and more about those topics but it's not necessary to have prior knowledge coming in.

Q: “How do I make it into the delegation?”

A: During the tryout meetings you need to…

  • Have a positive attitude

  • Want to be a part of the delegation, and not just put another program on your college app

  • Voice your opinion

  • Communicate well

  • Be yourself

  • Put effort into ALL of your assignments, please use spell check

Q: “Who is the perfect delegate?”

A: Not every member of our delegation is perfect...not even close, nor are we looking for perfection, but we do have some shining stars. Here’s what makes them great.

  • Shows tremendous leadership

  • Speaks incredibly eloquently

  • Exudes confidence

  • Puts 100% into the delegation

  • Is a fiercely hard worker

  • Has crazy amounts of fun

  • Voices their opinions articulately

Q: “Do you guys even have fun or do you only write bills and speak?”

A: We have so much fun you wouldn’t even believe it. Don’t forget that in addition to the “Government” there is also “Youth”. This program gives you the chance to make friends from all over our state, and at conferences you also get to turn up at dances, grab lunch at a great pizza place and get fancy for a governor’s ball. The reason why we have so many people in this program and why you see so many reppin that pirate pride is because we never stop having fun.

Q: “I am really afraid of public speaking, do I have to speak in front of the whole delegation during tryouts?”

A: First off one of the great parts about this program is that is gives you the tools and confidence to be able to stand in front of a crowd and share your opinions. However for some people that process is slow, so we do not force incoming delegates to speak in front of 200 people. Tryouts will consist of small “color-groups” of about 10-15 people.

Q: “What if I can’t make one of the conferences, ie. Fresno/Sacramento?”

A: Unfortunately you will not be able to be a part of NCDM. Conferences are a HUGE deal and it is necessary to be at every one. You simply will not get the full experience, and we want to give that opportunity to someone who can commit 100%.

Q: “Do you have to show up to all the meetings?”
A: Yes, and you will quickly find that there is no where else you would rather be on a Wednesday night.
